“peace, peace, where there is no peace.”

nobelprizes_flagI was on Facebook this morning and saw several comments about President Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.  Honestly, I was shocked.  So, I googled the story and sure enough, he did.

Now, never mind the fact that the prize includes a gift of $1.4 million, the real issue is, why?  Why would someone who has accomplished nothing receive such a prestigious award?  The article I read noted that the recipient is selected by February 1st.

“The choice was stunning nonetheless, given the nomination deadline of Feb.1, less than two weeks after the Obama presidency began.” wrote the author.

Given that fact, it was even more stunning to read this statement from the Nobel Committee Chairman:

“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” said Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Nobel Committee.

“…captured the world’s attention…” ,  “…given its people hope…”, hmmm….these phrases match ironically to the last book in my Bible. The phrase, “‘peace, peace, where there is no peace.’” in Jeremiah 6:14 popped into my mind as well.

I looked up this particular verse in the, The Message, a paraphrase of the Bible, and it pulled up verses 13-15.  More shock! These verses read like something out of today’s newspaper.  Read for yourself what God Himself told the Prophet Jeremiah:

“Everyone’s after the dishonest dollar,
little people and big people alike.
Prophets and priests and everyone in between
twist words and doctor truth.
My people are broken—shattered!—
and they put on Band-Aids,
Saying, ‘It’s not so bad. You’ll be just fine.’
But things are not ‘just fine’!
Do you suppose they are embarrassed
over this outrage?
No, they have no shame.
They don’t even know how to blush.
There’s no hope for them. They’ve hit bottom
and there’s no getting up.
As far as I’m concerned,
they’re finished.”
God has spoken.

Enough said.

Excuse Me, I have to Post.

With all due respect to the office of the Presidency, I’m befuddled as to why President Obama is still campaigning.  I have my opinions, of course, but shouldn’t he be at the White House working?

I’ve never seen a president spend so much time in front of the camera and at town hall meetings.  When he jetted off to MO for yet another town hall meeting the same day as his first 100 days in office ‘press conference’ (I put that in quotes because it honestly appeared to be staged), I just had to post.

How can one preach ‘fiscal responsibility’ and ‘cut-backs,’ then drop $300,000+ to fly off on Airforce One for a 2-hour ego stroking?

I politely object.  Sarcastic innuendo is not becoming of the President of the United States.  If you can’t handle opposition, you’re in the wrong job.

A Dove with a Dream

Yesterday I watched a dove released from a cage and I can’t stop watching.

Constrained by unemployment, frumpy hair and the recent loss of her mother, Susan Boyle of Scotland left her cage on the stage of Britain’s Got Talent! – the UK’s version of American Idol – and the world stood still.

A sea of mocking, shallow-minded on-lookers parted as Susan walked through on dry ground.  By the sheer purity of her angelic voice, these muddy waters of scorn and pride were helplessly frozen, unable to move.

Jaws dropped.  Tears formed.  Breathing stopped.  This gentle, humble and quirky bird, silenced a world of hunters with a song.

You no longer have to dream Miss Boyle, you’re living it.
